220 Austin ISD Students Earn Recognition for Academic Performance

This year, 220 Austin ISD seniors earned recognition for outstanding academic performance from the U.S. Presidential Scholars, National Merit Finalists, National Merit Semifinalists, National Merit Commended Scholars and College Board National Hispanic Scholars programs.

Those recognized include two Presidential Scholar Candidates, 56 National Merit Finalists, 37 Scholars for the National Hispanic Recognition Program and 138 National Merit Commended students. Thirteen students received recognition in more than one program.

Akins, Bowie and McCallum high schools, along with Kealing and Gorzycki middle schools, were presented Crown Awards by The Columbia Scholastic Press Association for scholastic publications at the CSPA 94th Annual Convention.

The Crown Awards honor top student publications chosen from CSPA’s members. Crowns are selected for overall excellence in a side-by-side comparison.

Austin Board of Realtors Members Get 'Schooled' with Austin ISD

Austin ISD hosted members of the Austin Board of Realtors on Wednesday to give Austin-area Realtors a firsthand look at four AISD schools.

In its fifth installment, the tour focused on special campuses, beginning with the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.

At LASA, the group heard from Principal Stacia Crescenzi about the school's history and the its mission.

Symphony of SXSW: Bedichek Orchestra Receives $22K in Musical Instruments from Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, StubHub

A surprise donation turned into a symphony when Bedichek Middle School was chosen as the recipient of 13 new musical instruments from Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation during the annual SXSW festival.

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, in partnership with StubHub, donated $22,851 worth of instruments to Bedichek and invited the students, directed by Samantha Stewart, to perform at Bangers on Rainey Street.

The donation included seven violas, two cellos, one euphonium, one trombone, one tuba and five violin bows.

Magical Mystery Bus Tour: On the Road with AISD Special Education Transition Programs

The Parent Engagement Support Office, Office of Teaching and Learning-Special Education, and AISD Transition Support Services are collaborating to host tour of the various Austin ISD transition and work programs that prepare special education students for College, Career, and Life. Lunch will be provided. 

Board the AISD bus at Clifton Career Development School, 1519 Coronado Hills Dr., Austin, TX 78752. There is limited seating on the bus. A wheelchair accessible bus is available. 

Spanish interpretation is available upon request.
