Framed for Success: Ann Richards Wins its First UIL State Championship

Ann Richards School for Young Women won its first state championship in a UIL competition.

Ann Richards student Brooke Brogan won the UIL State Champion in division 2 for her short film, “The Garden,” in the traditional animation category.

Brogan hand-drew the characters in the film, scanned each frame and then cleaned and painted the art work in Photoshop. Backgrounds and animation were added in Adobe After Effects, with the final film compiled with music and sound in Adobe Premier.

Hot Wheels: Anderson High School Para-Athlete Blazes Toward State

Anderson High School junior Hayden Sipple had never suited up for Trojans athletics.

But when AHS track and field coach Daniel Hunter spied Sipple's incredible strength several months ago, the coach said he knew that had to change.

"I watched Hayden get out of his wheelchair and incline bench press 185 pounds just like our football players," Hunter said. "I immediately knew there was untapped athletic potential there."

Media Advisory At a Theater Near You: Student Films to be Showcased at Alamo Drafthouse During SXSWedu

AISD hosts a special SXSWedu premiere of stories from students about how they are supported, challenged and encouraged to succeed.

What: Student films—representing 17 of AISD’s high schools—capture the richness and diversity of life in the district’s high schools. The films highlight the dedication of the teachers, coaches, families and community members who inspire students every day.

Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with the filmmakers, moderated by Hema Mullur of KEYE TV. KLRU will also broadcast the films at a later date.
