LBJ Early College High School Showcase 2017

LBJ Early College High School hosts in 2017 Showcase 6–8 p.m. Feb. 1 in the school's cafeteria.

Students interested in attending LBJ ECHS or planning to enroll for the 2017–18 school year should attend this event to learn about the exciting career pathways and other Career and Technical Education classes offered to LBJ ECHS students.

The entire family is invited to attend.

Aaron Franklin Visits Covington Middle Schoolers

Students at Covington Middle School recently got to meet one of the most recognized names in the barbecue business—Aaron Franklin, the entrepreneur behind Austin's legendary Franklin barbecue

Franklin was the first in a series of guest speakers visiting students throughout the Crockett High School family of schools who are taking part in the entrepreneurship program.

He emphasized that, as an entrepreneur, “You should focus on your passion, not the money you make.”

Goal-Setting Initiative Helps Students Prepare to Enter College and Careers

The Student With A Graduation Goal initiative equips students, teachers and families with the tools to help students navigate and enter the colleges and careers of their choice.

The 2017 S.W.A.G.G. conference will feature breakout sessions for students and non-students.

Session topics vary from pathways students can follow to attend their choice colleges to a lesson for families and mentors on ways to connect with students about the expectation of graduation.

Kindergarten Orientation 2017

Austin ISD invites families and their children to join us April 4, 2017 throughout the district for Kindergarten Orientation.

Join us to learn more about the district's full-day kindergarten program, including curriculum, daily schedules, attendance requirements, the school year calendar, how to help a child prepare for school and much more!

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 are eligible to enroll. Items to bring with you to Kindergarten Orientation:

Eastside Memorial High School’s Health Science Program Offers Biannual Blood Drives

Last fall, Eastside Memorial High School health science students served about 38 donors at the school's blood drive for students and community members.

The blood drive was a collaborative effort with the Central Texas blood center, We Are Blood.

Prior to the blood drive, a group of 11th- and 12th-graders participated in an educational tour of the We Are Blood facility on Lamar Boulevard. The tour, led by We Are Blood’s Public Relations Manager Cindy Rowe, taught students about the donation process.

Austin ISD Trustees Approve 2017–18 Instructional Calendar

At its regular meeting last night, the Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the district's 2017–18 instructional calendar. 

The calendar includes a TEA waiver to start and end the 2017–18 school year a week earlier.

Three versions of the calendar, each along with a waiver version, were submitted by the Calendar Task Force and shared for review, input and online voting.
