Austin ISD Again Named Nation's Largest No Place for Hate District

For the second consecutive year, the Anti-Defamation League has named Austin ISD the largest No Place For Hate district in the nation, with all schools participating.

ADL’s No Place for Hate initiative was developed to organize schools to work together and create projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony among diverse groups.

The campaign is designed to empower schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry.

AISD Summer Efficiency Schedule June 22–Aug. 14

Beginning June 22 and ending Aug. 14, Austin ISD will operate on a summer efficiency schedule.

The program is design to reduce energy costs, and in 2014, saved the district about $716,000.

All schools and offices adopt a four-day week during this time. Business hours will be 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday–Thursday. All district and campus offices will be closed on Fridays.

The district also will be closed for one week, from Monday, June 29, through Friday, July 3. All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period.

Parent Learning Walk / Paseo para aprendizaje para padres

The Office of Academics is hosting a Parent Learning Walk to give families the opportunity to learn about curriculum development and what / how their students are taught. 

Families will also learn how to help their students navigate social media, and will learn about digital citizenship and cyber safety. Attendees will also receive an Austin ISD Parent Guide. 

The session is 10–11:30 a.m. June 16 at McCallum High School, 5600 Sunshine Drive. Spanish interpretation services will be provided.

2015 Juneteenth Emancipation Parade

Austin ISD invites the community to join faculty, staff, students and their families as we march in the 150th annual Juneteenth Emancipation Parade on June 20.  

This year's parade is 10 a.m.–noon. Participants should meet at 9:45 a.m. at Disch-Falk Field, 1300 E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., for the parade to Rosewood Park, 2300 Rosewood Ave.

More than 100 people marched in the 2014 parade, and organizers have set a goal of 150 celebrants this year.

Austin ISD Celebrates Juneteenth Emancipation Parade

Austin ISD invites the community to join faculty, staff, students and their families as we march in the 150th annual Juneteenth Emancipation Parade on June 20.  

Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas in June 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.

This year's parade is 10 a.m.–noon. Participants should meet at 9:45 a.m. at Disch-Falk Field, 1300 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., for the parade to Rosewood Park, 2300 Rosewood Ave.
