Crockett High School Open House
You're invited! Mark your calendar for the Crockett High School Renaissance Festival Open House. The event will be held from 5:30–7:30 p.m. March 25 at Crockett, 5601 Manchaca Road.
The event will showcase performing artists, interactive projects, spirit items, clubs and booster organizations. Students and families can also speak with guidance counselors and receive information about academics and college preparation.

'The Future is Now' Williams Elementary School Hosts College to Career Week
Williams Elementary School is hosting its college to career week.
Activities are designed to help students connect their skills and interests with specific academic subject areas.
Students will learn about college majors and career options related to their own areas of interest.
What: The careers on wheels activity, a display of vehicles associated with different careers, gives students opportunities to ask questions about career options, necessary skills, education and more.

Blackshear Elementary School 'Minitropolis' Teaches Students to be Responsible Citizens
In the Blackshear Minitropolis, students are producers and consumers and interact with each other to support a mock economy.
The Minitropolis program introduces students to different careers.
Students perform jobs at the school, such as banking, human resources, sales and reporting.
What: The Blackshear Minitropolis is a program providing students the social, academic and real-life experience they need to be successful and responsible citizens.
Kindergarten Orientation
What: Kindergarten Orientation is being offered on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at all elementary schools in the Austin Independent School District. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2015, are eligible to be enrolled in AISD.
At Kindergarten Orientation, parents will receive information about the Austin School District’s full-day kindergarten program, including curriculum, daily schedules, attendance requirements, the school year calendar, how to help a child prepare for school and information specific to the individual campus.
Lanier FFA Pet Vaccination Clinic
The Lanier High School FFA is hosting its annual pet vaccination clinic, 5-7 p.m. March 30 at Lanier High School.
Cats, dogs and many other types of animals can all receive vaccinations. Protect your animals for a year with all the shots they need for only $20.
Additional vaccinations are also available as well as worming, flea and heartworm medicines. The clinic is open to everyone in the community—no appointment necessary!
All proceeds benefit the Lanier FFA, a 501(c)3 organization.

Super Bowl-winning Coach to Pecan Springs: Set Your Goals High
Tony Dungy, the first African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl, met with students March 10 at Pecan Springs Early College Prep Elementary School.
The popular football analyst for NBC and national spokesman for the All Pro Dad fatherhood program encouraged students to follow their dreams to be successful.
"Set your goals high," he said. "Don't let anyone talk you out of dreaming."
Dungy underscored the importance of education and persistence.
"If it doesn't go the way you want it to, don't give up," he said. "Stick to your guns, and do what you believe in."
Austin ISD Recognizes Work of AISD AmeriCorps Volunteers
March 9–13 is national AmeriCorps Week, a time to recognize the work of Austin ISD AmeriCorps volunteers.
Now in its second year, the AISD AmeriCorps program includes 18 full-time volunteers at Reagan Early College High School and Travis High School.
The main goal for AISD AmeriCorps members is to help improve graduation rates at the two high schools.
Members serve as tutors in English language arts and math classes, primarily working with freshmen who may need extra help.
¡Salsa y Salsa! Dance and Food Competition
Lanier High School welcomes the entire community to the first-ever ¡Salsa y Salsa! dance and food competition.
Participants are invited to join us to show off your best dance moves and best homemade salsa.
Prizes will be awarded for best dancer and best dish!
This FREE evening of fun will feature cumbia, bachata, merengue and salsa, 6–7:30 p.m. March 11 in the Lanier High School cafeteria, 1201 Payton Gin Road.
Media Advisory: Metz Elementary School Walks Toward Path of Tolerance, Peace and Diversity
This week, Metz Elementary School students, parents, faculty and staff are joining together in a Walk Against Hate.
What: Participants will walk around the school and convene at the front of Metz for a short presentation. Walkers will wear a Metz shirt or white T-shirt to show support of diversity, peace, tolerance, love and acceptance.
