MEDIA ADVISORY: ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’: Blackshear Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday During Read Across America

Blackshear Elementary School is celebrating Read Across America, a nationwide day of reading, with administrators and community leaders reading Dr. Seuss classics in all its classrooms.

The National Education Association’s Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2. For a list of participants, please see below.

2015 ¡ADELANTE! Conference for the Bilingual & Dual Language Community.

¡Adelante! is an educator­‐led conference focused on Bilingual/Dual Language education in Central Texas. This conference is a forum for educators to share their experiences with other educators, to disperse insight and innovations in teaching and learning that occur daily on campuses throughout the region, and to ignite conversations among educators about working with bilingual students, families, and communities.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Hart Elementary School Invites Families to College Night

Bernice Hart Elementary School invites families to learn about college readiness at a family fun night next Thursday, Feb. 26.  

Families can also learn about the Reagan Early College High School Program, a program in which students can earn up to 60 hours of college credit and an associate’s degree through Austin Community College while getting their high school diploma.

Austin ISD Hosts Sustainability Resource Fair

Austin ISD will host a Sustainability Resource Fair from 6:30–8:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second St.

The fair will showcase resources to help AISD schools focus on recycling, composting and other ways to keep trash out of landfills. 

The event is free and open to the public. Carpooling and other green transportation options are encouraged. There will be free parking in the city hall garage.
