Bowie and Akins Students To Meet with Mazda Professionals About STEM Career Options

AUSTIN, Texas—Next week, Bowie and Akins high school students will get the chance to talk to Mazda professionals about real-world applications of STEM used throughout Mazda’s Motorsports activities and the automobile industry.

Community Rallies to Give Wooldridge Elementary School Makeover

This weekend, more than 500 community partners, including members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, North Austin Civic Association and the Austin Police Department, will work together to beautify Wooldridge Elementary School. This project is part of the Restore Rundberg Project and the goal is to clean up the Rundberg area, which faces maintenance challenges. The project will take place 7:45–11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Wooldridge Elementary School.

Austin ISD welcomes families and the community to the East Austin Multicultural Fair, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy, 6401 N. Hampton Drive.

Join us for fun, food, prizes and more! The event includes health care providers, job information, after-school programs, adult education resources and programs for low-income students. 

It also features a dual-language education presentation with Drs. Virginia Collier, Wayne Thomas and Mario Ferrón. 

Google Surprises AISD Teachers by Funding All Classroom Requests on DonorsChoose.org

AUSTIN, Texas—Today, Google surprised four Palm Elementary School teachers when the company announced it would fully fund their projects listed on DonorsChoose.org.
 
“This is a great way for a company such as Google to support our schools and the innovative work our teachers are doing each day,” Austin ISD Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz said.

City of Austin Supports AISD Programs in New Budget

AUSTIN, Texas—The Austin City Council has voted to support Austin ISD’s community education programs, including the district’s parent support specialists and after-school programming as part of its 2014-15 budget.

The city funds to help support the district’s educational and community initiatives come at a critical time in relation to the Austin school district’s budget.
