AISD Hosts Forums for Input on Superintendent

AUSTIN, Texas—Austin ISD wants to hear from everyone in the community as the district begins the search for a new, permanent superintendent.

The district will host a series of open public forums to gather input and hear ideas to develop a candidate profile that best meets the unique needs of Austin. Lunchtime forums will take place at Baker Center, 3908 Avenue B, all three days from noon to 1:30 p.m. Evening forums will be hosted simultaneously from 6:30–8 p.m.

FAQ: Arrest of Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan

Austin, TexasAustin ISD police notified campus and district officials that Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan, a Walnut Creek Elementary School teacher who was teaching at the summer school program at Reilly, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, Friday, June 13, following an investigation by AISD police. The suspect confessed during the AISD investigation. Immediately thereafter, the district served the teacher notice of termination.

Media Advisory: News Media Access to Schools Limited During STAAR and TAKS Examinations July 7-10

AUSTIN, Texas—In July, Austin ISD students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.

To reduce distractions and help students focus on their tests, the news media's access to AISD campuses will be limited July 7-10.

As has been the practice on test days in the past, the district will continue to limit visitors' access to schools during student assessment periods. As always, AISD appreciates the news media's cooperation.

Reminder: AISD Adopts Summer Efficiency Schedule for Six Weeks to Save Energy

Austin, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will adopt a summer efficiency schedule for six weeks to reduce energy costs from June 23 through Aug. 8. The district’s average savings from the summer efficiency program is about $486,000.

All schools and offices will adopt a four-day week during this time. Business hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The district will be closed Friday.
