Citywide Electronics Recycling Day at Austin High School

The Austin Independent School District will host a free citywide community electronics recycling event from 7 a.m.–6 p.m. April 26 in the parking lot at Austin High School, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez St.

Consumers are encouraged to bring used electronics to the event for recycling; accepted items are listed below. The event is coordinated by Strategic Mobile Group, the technology e-waste partner of AISD, and Fone4Schools, an organization that helps schools raise money by converting donated electronics into funds for student programs.

Items accepted, working or not:

  • Cell phones or smartphones (e.g., Apple, Android, Windows Mobile or Blackberry)
  • Tablets: iPads, Kindles or Android Tablets and Windows Tablets)
  • Laptop and desktop computers
  • Home electronics
  • Stereo equipment and cable boxes
  • Computer accessories and printers
  • Personal electronics (e.g., cameras, ipods, video cameras)
  • Monitors and CRTs
  • CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes

Please note: UNFORTUNATELY WE CAN NOT ACCEPT TUBE TVs OR APPLIANCES.

More than 72 tons of e-waste are expected to be disposed of in 2014. Do your part to keep eWaste out of Austin area landfills and help AISD kids at the same time.

Lanier's One Love Multicultural Showcase

The culmination of Lanier's High School's Peace Week activities, the showcase will include booths from many countries, dancers and free food. The event will be in the cafeteria and courtyard.

Walk for the Water

Walk for the Water is the fourth step in A Legacy of Giving’s youth philanthropy program. Legacy students, parents and friends representing 35 Legacy schools will carry water jugs and walk the representative 3.7 miles that people in developing countries walk one way to access clean water.

Student advocates use their time and talent to raise awareness and donations. 100 percent of student donations go to The Gazelle Foundation to build water systems that provide access to clean water FOR LIFE.

Media Advisory: News Media Access to Schools Limited During STAAR and TAKS Examination Periods

Austin, Texas—Students in the Austin Independent School District are scheduled to take state exams, including the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, during March, April and May.

To reduce distractions and help students focus on their tests, the news media's access to AISD campuses will be limited during the weeks of:

AISD Closed Friday, April 18

Austin, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will be closed for a student and staff holiday Friday, April 18.

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business hours Monday, April 21.
