Austin, TEXAS—Austin ISD’s James Bowie High School Outdoor Performing Ensemble was awarded as a 2013 Sudler Shield Recipient, the highest achievement a marching band can receive.
The jury of the Sudler Shield notified the recipients in December at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Convention, which is held in Chicago each year.

AISD’s Dual Language Program is designed to ensure that both English learners and native English speakers enrolled in the program will be successful in a challenging and rigorous dual-language curriculum. We expect our dual-language students to acquire the bilingual, biliterate and bicultural skills necessary to graduate ready for college, career and life in a global, multicultural society.

Austin ISD families of children receiving special education services are invited to attend free workshops that will provide information and support, as well as a chance to meet face-to-face with the district’s Special Education Director Raul Nuques.
A light meal, Spanish interpreters and free activities for children will be provided at the Jan. 28 workshops.
The workshops are provided by the Family Support Co-op, a cooperative effort of Austin ISD, The Arc of the Capital Area, Austin Travis County Integral Care, NAMI Austin and Easter Seals Central Texas.
