AISD Approves Distinguished Level of Achievement as Default Graduation Plan

Austin ISD's Board of Trustees established the Distinguished Level of Achievement graduation plan as the district's default graduation plan beginning with the Class of 2018.

The trustees also approved the requirement of one credit of physical education and one half credit of health to meet graduation requirements for all plans beginning with the Class of 2018.

AISD Announces Schools Frozen to Transfers for 2014-15

Tonight, the Austin Independent School District announced 29 schools will be frozen to transfers during the 2014-15 school year, while another 24 schools will be re-evaluated after priority transfers are approved.

Each year, the district determines which schools should be frozen to transfers because they have, or are expected to have, enrollments that exceed their capacities. Also, some schools are frozen to maintain stability in tracking patterns.

Trustees Decide Locations for New Single-gender Middle Schools

AUSTIN, Texas—Tonight, Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees approved Gus Garcia Middle School as the site for the Young Men’s Leadership Academy and James E. Pearce Middle School as the site for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

In January, the board voted to combine the Gus Garcia and James E. Pearce middle school attendance areas to facilitate the design of two single-gender middle schools in District 1 for the 2014-15 school year.
