Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District students achieved gains in reading, mathematics, science and social studies, according to The Texas Education Agency’s preliminary results of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) released last week.
Students participating in the VICTORY Tutorial Program will get an added boost to their studies. The program offers free tutoring to students in grades first through 12 at designated branches of the Austin Public Library, and students are matched on a 1:1 basis with volunteers from the greater Austin community.
The Austin Independent School District will hold graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2013 through June 8.
Most ceremonies will be held at the Frank Erwin Center unless noted below. They also will be webcast live on the AISD website at www.austinisd.org.

The attendance area for Garcia and Pearce middle schools will be combined to facilitate the design of two, single-sex middle schools, one male and one female.
Austin, TX—Last night, State Education Commissioner Michael Williams announced he has approved the Austin Independent School District’s plan to strengthen student achievement at Eastside Memorial High School. The district developed the plan to partner with Talent Development Secondary, a Johns Hopkins University program, collaboratively with community members to support Eastside Memorial and the middle and elementary schools that feed into it.

AISD will host a meeting for parents of children attending Title I schools on Tuesday, June 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Ridgetop Elementary School, 5005 Caswell Avenue.
