DAC Meeting

Where: Board Auditorium of the Carruth Administration Center located at 1111 W. 6th St.

What:  District Advisory Counscil meeting. Regular meetings of the DAC are open to the public. Interested individuals may sign up to speak to the DAC on issues of a district-wide nature prior to the start of each regular meeting. Citizen communications are heard at the beginning of each regular meeting.

AISD Launches Parent Cloud

Austin, Texas—The Austin Independent School District has launched the AISD Parent Cloud, a new online tool that offers parents access to their students’ educational information—from tracking grades, attendance and test scores to planning for graduation.

The Parent Cloud brings the district’s resources together, allowing parents to navigate district-wide information and services with the touch of a button.

Media Advisory: Elementary Students Practice Reading with Marines to Celebrate Read Across America

AUSTIN, TX--This Friday, students at Andrews Elementary School will practice their reading skills with members of the U.S. military. Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina will read with kindergarten students over Skype as part of the school's Read Across America celebration. Others participating include a small-business owner and a music educator, both from south Texas.

AISD Superintendent Recognized as Outstanding Texan

Austin, TX— Tuesday, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus (TLBC) honored Dr. Meria Carstarphen, superintendent of the Austin Independent School District, with the Outstanding Texan Award for her dedication to improving education in the Austin community. Each year, TLBC selects a number of exceptional Texans from across the state to recognize them for their contributions to the Lone Star State.

Andrews Elementary School Celebrates Read Across America Day

School administrators at Andrews Elementary School say 134 Kindergarten students will celebrate Read Across America Day, which is also acclaimed children's author Dr. Seuss’s birthday, with a special celebration Friday, March 1, in the Andrews Library from 7:45 to 11 a.m.

The nationwide literacy celebration will take place with the help of representatives from the Austin Police Department, the Austin Public Library, AmeriCorps College Forward, AmeriCorps ACE Tutors, the UT School of Information and Principal, Laurie Barber. Additionaly, librarian Danny Ramos commandeered Marines from the Public Affairs Division in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to read aloud to the children via Skype. As part of the celebration, students will also be provided with one free book donated by the Barnum and Bailey’s Ringling Brother’s Circus.
