Austin, TX— The Austin Independent School District will host its African-American Parent Involvement Conference this weekend to encourage more parental participation from the African-American community.

When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2

Where: Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Drive

Background: The Department of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach (PRMO) has been working with parent support specialists and parents from the LBJ, McCallum and Reagan high school communities to improve engagement with African-American families. Research indicates that when families are involved, grades go up, attendance improves and students are more likely to graduate from high school.
