KEYE TV Wraps Up Filming of AISD High School Spotlight Series

This year, Austin ISD and KEYE TV worked together to show the Central Texas community what makes AISD high schools truly unique. Every Thursday morning during the series, the community got a chance to see, first hand, the excellent work performed by our high school students, teachers and campus leaders.

Media Advisory: AISD Honors Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Austin, TX—This week, the Austin Independent School District honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the anniversary of his birth—Jan. 15, 1929—and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the year the civil rights leader delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C.

Who: Superintendent Meria Carstarphen joins AISD team members and students, including Devin Domino from Austin High School, Cantrell Gains from Travis High School and Keyanna Mack from Kealing Middle School.

AISD Seeks Community Input at Public Hearing for Utilization of Surplus Bond Program Contingency Funds

Austin, Texas—Members of the public will have an opportunity to address Austin ISD's Board of Trustees and provide feedback at a public hearing on possible board action regarding the utilization of surplus Bond Program contingency funds.

What:  Parents and community members sharing feedback on potential board action regarding the utilization of 2004 and 2008 surplus Bond Program contingency funds.

AISD Seeks Community Input at Public Hearings for Potential Bond Package in 2013

Austin, Texas—Members of the public will have an opportunity to address Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees and provide feedback at two public hearings regarding a potential Bond Program in 2013.  The meetings will be followed by a televised special board meeting.

Feria Para Aprender

Where: North Austin Events Center, 10601 North Lamar

What: The largest Spanish-language education fair in Central Texas reaches more than 12,000 parents and students. This fair provides the opportunity to connect with hundreds of programs and services that support a child's academic success.

There will be park & ride shuttles from Dobie Middle School (1200 E. Rundberg Ln) & Lanier High School (1201 Payton Gin Road).

Board Briefs: Special Meeting and Board Dialogue (Jan. 7)

Final Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations: Garcia and Pearce Middle Schools Program Design, District 1

The superintendent sought board guidance on the level of support among trustees for a proposed Garcia and Pearce middle schools program design. The superintendent reported that a planning team, which began work during September 2012, has reviewed research, engaged the community, vetted three scenarios, and visited four single-sex model campuses to observe first-year and established models.

Anderson High School Hosts Info Session on International Baccalaureate Program

This January, Anderson High School will host an information session about its International Baccalaureate (IB) program—an internationally recognized academic program that helps students develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work successfully in a rapidly globalizing world. The information session includes an overview of the program, a panel discussion with IB graduates and current IB students, as well as a question-and-answer session.

What: The Citizens' Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) is charged with developing recommendations on the scope of work for a proposed new district bond program. All meetings are open to the public.
