Registration open for out-of-school students to take October exit-level TAKS tests

Out-of-school students who still need to take exit-level retests of the October TAKS exam can register online, now through Sept. 17, at www.TexasAssessment.com/taksoos. The TAKS exit-level tests will be administered on the following dates:

  • Oct. 22-English language arts
  • Oct. 23-mathematics
  • Oct. 24-science
  • Oct. 25-social studies

AISD Offers Online Registration and Enrollment for High School Students

Parents of AISD high school students now have the option to register their children for school online—when and where it is convenient for them. The system will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is accessed through the district website. This new system will save parents time and will better accommodate busy schedules. This initial pilot roll-out of the online registration system only serves high school student registration, but online enrollment options for middle and elementary school students will follow in the spring.

 

Austin ISD Hosts Student Registration and Orientation

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will host registration and orientation for students next week. Registration is for new AISD students and current students who have moved or transferred during the summer. The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 27.

For registration, parents should bring the child's official birth certificate, current immunization record, proof of residence in AISD and parent or guardian photo identification.

Austin ISD Hosts Back-to-School Bash and Safety Fair; Event Features District Programs, Safety Lessons and Free Immunizations

Austin, TX—The 2012-13 school year is quickly approaching and the Austin Independent School District is helping parents and students prepare during the Back to School Bash and Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Back-to-School Bash offers AISD families the opportunity to learn about the district's programs and services. Parents are invited to participate in such activities as booster-seat fittings and school-zone, safety lessons.

Seton Medical Center will provide free immunizations to students who bring their immunization records.

AISD Leads Big 8 in Percentage of Schools Achieving AYP; Districts Across Nation Face Challenges Amid Increased No Child Left Behind Standards

Austin, TX—Amid increasing No Child Left Behind standards for all student groups, the Austin Independent School District is leading the Big 8—comprised of large, urban school districts in Texas—with 60 percent of schools meeting the federally mandated Adequate Yearly Progress requirements.

District Hosts Laptop Clinic

The customer service and support area within the Austin Independent School District's Department of Technology is offering a teacher laptop clinic through Friday, Aug. 17, to provide teachers and staff with tools to help prepare for the new school year.

The Teacher Laptop Clinic will provide technical support to teachers and other school-based staff for their AISD-issued laptops and assist with any malware, viruses, expired passwords or re-imaging needs. Email set up will also be provided, if needed.

WHAT: Registration for the TAKS October exit level retests for TAKS examinees (including former TAAS and TEAMS examinees) will be online at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/taksoos.

Registration opens August 6 and ends September 17. The TAKS exit level tests will be administered on October 22, 2012 (English language arts); October 23, 2012 (mathematics); October 24, 2012 (science); and October 25, 2012 (social studies).

A list of participating campuses can be found at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/oosTestsites. Since the TAAS tests are no longer being administered, former TAAS examinees (including former TEAMS examinees) will take the appropriate part of the TAKS exit level English language arts and/or mathematics test(s).

The next administration of the TAKS retests for former TAAS examinees will be October 22, 2012, for English language arts writing; October 23, 2012, for mathematics; and October 24, 2012, for English language arts reading. TAKS scores will be matched to the appropriate TAAS passing standard.

On the day(s) of testing, examinees should arrive at the test site 30 minutes before the designated testing time. Examinees must present picture identification, such as a driver’s license, DPS ID, military ID, school ID, or resident alien card to test. Examinees will not be able to take the test(s) without a picture ID.
