Mayor Honors AISD Principal, Teacher and Classified Staff Member of the Year

Austin, TX—Mayor Lee Leffingwell will recognize Austin Independent School District’s principal, teacher and classified staff member of the year during the city council’s June 14 meeting.

Last month, AISD announced Donna Houser, Anderson High School principal, as Principal of the Year; Matt Earhart, Anderson High School teacher, as Teacher of the Year; and Diana Luna de Valladares, Cunningham Elementary School head custodian, as Classified Staff Member of the Year.

Austin ISD Students Performed Best in Math and Science on the New STAAR Test and Make Gains on the Grade 11 TAKS Math and Science Tests

Austin, TX—The Texas Education Agency released preliminary results from the new State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and Austin Independent School District students fared the best in math and science.

STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills for 9th grade students and for middle school students enrolled in high school EOC classes. Students who entered high school prior to the 2011-12 school year will continue to take TAKS to meet their graduation requirements.

What: The Boundary Advisory Committee (BAC) is charged with assisting in the development of recommendations for the creation of and adjustment to school attendance zone boundaries. Travis Football Star Awarded Rooster Andrews Memorial Scholarship

Travis High School senior, Keegan Bradley was recently awarded a $1,200 Rooster Andrews Memorial Scholarship by the National Football Foundation.

Keegan was one of 43 nominees from football teams in high schools across central Texas. This also marks the fifth consecutive year a Travis football player has received a scholarship. An honor which no other school in central Texas has accomplished.

Kudos to all the coaches, faculty and teammates that played a part in this great honor for Keegan and the entire Travis school community.

Senior Piccolo Player Places First in State Competition

It was a cold winter day. Hundreds of musicians stood outside of a large auditorium, anxiously awaiting their fate. This is the day they had been waiting for. This is the day they had been working towards for weeks. This, was UIL State auditions.

"At the State competition, you show up and have a audition on excerpts they give you. The audition only takes about an hour, but then you have to wait three hours for results," Austin High senior, Carlyn Hendler said.

Crockett High School Selected for IMPACT Day

Austin, TX—Austin Independent School District's Crockett High School was selected by Deloitte LLP and the United Way for this year's IMPACT Day in Austin, when more than 350 Deloitte staff members will volunteer a full day to support Crockett students. Volunteers will help students and families with career planning and making over Crockett's courtyards, classrooms and common areas.
