Graduation Dates Set for Austin ISD's Class of 2012

GRADUATION DATES SET FOR AUSTIN ISD'S CLASS OF 2012
Ceremonies to be Webcast Live

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will hold high school graduation ceremonies for members of the Class of 2012 at the Frank Erwin Center.

This year, ceremonies have been clustered so that campuses of the same size can hold graduation ceremonies on the same day. This will enable a more personalized set-up for the smaller campuses.

 

AISD Named Top Performing District by the Council of the Great City Schools

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District has earned the Top Performing District award for its management of business operations services in 2011 from the Council of the Great City Schools. This recognition is based on key performance measures that demonstrate efficient and effective use of resources in the critical areas of child nutrition, maintenance and operations, safety and security and student transportation.

May is AISD Teacher Appreciation Month

Every year, AISD joins school districts across the nation in celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, the district has designated the month of May as AISD Teacher Appreciation Month, beginning with Teacher Appreciation Week from May 7-11, to build awareness about the crucial role and essential contributions of AISD's more than 6,000 teachers and substitute teachers across the district.

Celebrate Teaching Excellence at Salute - May 23

Salute, a tribute to teaching excellence throughout the district, will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Student performances begin at 5 p.m.), Wednesday, May 23 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. This annual event, co-hosted by Austin ISD and Austin Partners in Education, will include a program recognizing our teachers, student performances and a honoree reception. We also will name the Austin Teacher of the Year, who will serve as the District’s nominee for the Texas Teacher of the Year Program.

In honor of Asian American Heritage Month, the Asian Behavioral Health Network & YWCA of Greater Austin proudly present, "More Than a Model Minority": Enhancing Counseling Practices, Advocacy & Community Outreach with Asian Americans in Central Texas.

Join us for a discussion and information session with mental health and other service providers who specialize in working with Asian and Asian American clients. The event will feature a keynote speech by Ramey Ko, Associate Municipal Judge (first Asian American judge in the city of Austin) and member of the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. This training will provide clinicians, social workers, psychologists, other social service providers and community partners with knowledge and tools to engage in effective and successful interactions and interventions with their Asian and Asian American clients.

AISD Students Earn National and State Honors

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District's Board of Trustees celebrate the achievements of students who excel both inside and outside of the classroom. More than 50 students were recognized during tonight's board meeting for receiving national and state honors.

Crockett High School Named National Outstanding High School and Texas Urban High School of the Year

Austin, TX—David Crockett High School has been named a National Outstanding High School and the Texas Urban High School of the Year for 2011 by the Southern Regional Education Board's High Schools That Work. The board, an interstate compact of 16 southern states, awards these recognitions only to select high schools that have shown effective and continuous progress in improving the academic achievement of all students on their campuses.
