AISD Elementary Students Runners-Up in National Energy Competition

Austin, TX—As homeowners look for ways to save money on their energy bills, a team of eight fifth grade students at Bryker Woods Elementary successfully reduced energy at their homes, earning them recognition as a runner-up in the America's Home Energy Education Challenge. The team reduced energy use by 2.8 percent, which is one percent more than the savings from a major investment of installing weather stripping in a home.

AISD Launches Educa Austin Spanish radio show aimed at improving citywide, parental engagement

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District is reaching out to an increasingly diverse parent and student population through one of the most popular media for Spanish speakers: radio. This Saturday, AISD's Department of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach will launch Educa Austin, a weekend radio talk show designed to better engage Spanish-dominant families by eliminating language and cultural barriers.

School for Young Men Parent Survey in a mailbox near you!

Austin ISD has hired the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) to conduct a survey for parents of young men in grades 1-5th regarding an all-male college and career preparatory school. This is one of the preliminary, potential 2013-14 Annual Academic Facilities Recommendations being considered.

During the month of June, parents of young men in 1-5th grade will receive a letter and survey in the mail from TASB. The district will utilize the data from the survey to provide support for this preliminary, potential 2013-14 Annual Academic Facilities Recommendation.

Two AISD High Schools Earn National Ranking from Newsweek

Austin, TX—Two Austin Independent School District high schools are among the best in the nation, according to Newsweek's America's Best High School rankings for 2012. Liberal Arts Science Academy is 38th and Anderson High School is 551st in the country out of 1,000 schools featured in the annual report. Both schools also were recognized in Newsweek's America's Best High School rankings for 2011.

Crockett High School Student Invited to U.S. National High School Mathematics Championship

Austin, TX—Although Benjamin Henderson will earn his diploma from Crockett High School next week, he will continue to represent the school and Austin Independent School District. The American Society for Mathematics has invited him to compete in the U.S. National High School Mathematics Championship in Oklahoma City.

Austin ISD Salutes Teaching Excellence - District Honors Principal, Teacher and Classified Staff Member of the Year

Austin, TX—Tonight, Austin Independent School District and Austin Partners in Education paid tribute to teaching excellence at Salute, an annual event recognizing exceptional teachers and staff members throughout the district. Among the top honors presented were AISD Principal of the Year, AISD Teacher of the Year and AISD Classified Staff Member of the Year.
