Dobie Middle School's College Preparatory Academy Receives National Recognition for High Performance

Austin, TX—J. Frank Dobie College Preparatory Academy has been selected as a National Demonstration Site for Advancement Via Individual Determination, a kindergarten through postsecondary school system that has supported thousands of students to become confident, college-going scholars.

AISD 2012-13 Kindergarten Roundup Set for Tuesday, May 1

Austin, TX—Austin Independent School District is offering its annual Kindergarten Roundup at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at elementary schools. Children who live in the district's assignment area and will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, are eligible to be enroll in AISD.

Parents should bring the following to Kindergarten Roundup:

The child's birth certificateCurrent immunization recordsProof of parent's residence in Austin ISD, such as a current utility bill or lease agreementParent/guardian photo identification

Credit by Exam for Acceleration - Summer Administration

Credit by Examination for Acceleration for AISD middle and high school students will be administered June 13, 14, 15, at Austin High, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez. Students must pre-register by May 4. AISD students in grades 6-12 seeking credit for a course in which they have had no prior instruction may take Credit by Exam for Acceleration with the approval of their campus counselor. Students must score 90 or above to pass and earn credit.

Students must register through their campus registrar or counselor by May 4. Registration forms and study guides may be obtained from a campus counselor. Students must be preregistered and once registered, must take the exams.

2012 Latino Academic Achievement Awards

AISD will honor outstanding Latino students in sixth through 12th grade and community members at the 2012 Latino Academic Achievement Awards.

Join us as we recognize more than 120 students in such areas as Outstanding Progress in the ESL Program, Appreciation of Culture and Language, Outstanding Community Service Volunteer and Young Latino Leader. The district requested nominations from the community for the Latino Parent Volunteer, Latino Community Service recipient and Latino Excellence in Advocacy awards.

Bedichek Junior Marines Earn Three National Titles

Austin, TX—After competing in their first National Middle School Drill Championship in Dallas, 25 students in Bedichek Middle School's Junior Marines Leadership Program won three national titles in Unarmed Color Guard, Armed Drill and Overall Color Guard. In preparation for the competition, students practiced two hours daily, Monday through Thursday, and four hours Saturday. In order to participate, students were required to maintain passing grades in all course work.

Celebrate: Honoring Volunteers in Our Schools - May 3

Austin Partners in Education, in partnership with Austin ISD, is proud to present Celebrate, an evening dedicated to honoring AISD volunteers.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 3 at the Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Dr. Please join Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, State Representative Donna Howard, Wells Fargo Community Bank President Mark Curry and Board of Trustees President Mark Williams in recognizing PTA of the Year, Partner in Education Coordinator of the Year, APIE Partner of the Year and APIE Hall of Fame inductee.

AISD Celebrates School Library Month

AISD and communities throughout the U.S. will celebrate School Library Month throughout April, to recognize the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student's educational career. This year’s theme is “You belong @ your library,"® and AISD libraries will offer activities to highlight the various services offered to students and staff members ranging from storytelling, information to help improve reading skills and how to use the Internet.
