Tejano Monument Unveiling

Approximately 120 fourth and fifth grade students from Brentwood, Dawson, Galindo and Wooten elementary schools will join the Tejano Monument Incorporated, the Mexican American Cultural Center and the University of Texas at Austin to unveil the Tejano Monument at the Texas Capitol. Armando Hinojos designed the series of statues that commemorate the contributions by Texans of Spanish and Mexican descent (Tejanos) to the state between 1500 and 2010.

Lanier High School Hosts Naturalization Ceremony

Austin, TX— Sidney Lanier High School will host a naturalization ceremony conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, with the help of Citizenship Counts. Lanier students recently have completed the Citizenship Counts program, an interactive, multi-disciplinary civics curriculum that provides an opportunity for young people to participate in the democratic process and gain a better understanding of the value and responsibilities of citizenship.

Garcia Community Fundraiser

This summer, Garcia Middle School will be sending a group of fifteen eighth graders to Washington, D.C., for an educational tour with WorldStrides travel company. WorldStrides offers educators, students, and parents a personalized approach to student travel, with the goal of creating an educational experience for each student that is truly unforgettable. Students can also earn high school credit for attending the tour.
