Budget and AAFR Staff Conversation

AISD employees are invited to join Superintendent Meria Carstarphen and district team members in an all-staff meeting to discuss the PRELIMINARY BUDGET for 2013 and for an update about the Facility Master Plan and the district’s employee consultation policy.

Broad Foundation Ranks Several Key Areas Among Nation's Top

Austin, TX— As part of its drive to achieve the community's vision for the Austin Independent School District to become nationally recognized as an outstanding school district that instills a passion for life-long learning in all students, the district is pleased to announce the results of The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation's diagnostic audit, which ranks AISD among the nation's top performing districts in several areas, notably strategic planning and financial resource systems.

Austin ISD Students Unveil Tejano Monument; Teachers Collaborate on University Curriculum

Austin, TX—More than 100 fourth and fifth grade students from Brentwood, Dawson, Galindo and Wooten elementary schools will help make history as they join the Tejano Monument Inc., the Mexican American Cultural Center and the University of Texas at Austin to unveil the Tejano Monument.

The series of statues by Armando Hinojosa commemorates the contributions made by Texans of Spanish and Mexican descent (Tejanos) between 1500 and 2010.

Austin ISD Board of Trustees Name New Facility the Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the new Early Childhood Center in honor of Anita Uphaus, a former teacher and early childhood coordinator.

The Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center, located at 5200 Freidrich Lane in East Austin, is scheduled to open in the fall. The center was built utilizing funds from a bond approved by voters in 2008.

AISD Offers Tuition-Free Korean After School Program - Register Today!

Introduction to Korea is an After school enrichment program offered from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays at Travis High School, 1211 E. Oltorf. The program provides AISD students with rich opportunities to explore a new language, culture and learn basic korean literacy and conversational skills through culture-rich games and songs. Healthy snacks will be provided.

AISD Celebrates Youth Art Month - March 23 to April 16

AISD will celebrate Youth Art Month from March 23 to April 16, by displaying more than 1,500 works of art by students from 111 elementary, middle and high schools at One Congress Plaza, 111 Congress Ave. The gallery will be on display from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Thomas Properties Group, an AISD Art Program sponsor, has generously donated their space for the district's yearly art show. 

Austin ISD Student Artist to Sign Billboard

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District is going to new heights to celebrate Youth Art Month. Julia Lund, a student artist at Bowie High School, will sign the billboard she designed, which is located in the 1100 block of South Lamar Blvd. The Austin Fire Department will provide a ladder truck with a bucket to raise Julia and her teacher, Martha Anne Kuntz, up to the billboard. The billboard is sponsored by A+ Federal Credit Union and Reagan National Advertising, Inc.

AISD Educators Named Finalists for H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

Three AISD educators have been named finalists for the 2012 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas. Blaine Helwig of Graham Elementary was honored as a principal finalist and received a $1,000 check for himself and a $2,500 check for the campus. Teachers Angela Buckingham of Reagan High School and Elaine Leibick (right), of Highland Park Elementary were surprised earlier this week with $1,000 checks for themselves and $1,000 checks for their schools.
