AISD Schools Celebrate 'Love The Bus' Week Feb. 13-17

Thousands of school children in Austin and across the country are making Valentine cards for someone extra special in their lives this year, their school bus drivers.

To thank the men and women who take more than 26 million children safely to schools each day, the American School Bus Council (ASBC) is encouraging students, parents and teachers to “love the bus” in February and recognize their school bus drivers. 

Google's Digital Literacy Tour Comes to O.Henry

Google and iKeep Safe’s National Digital Literacy Tour is making its way to Austin with a scheduled stop at O. Henry Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. AISD parents are invited to attend and learn more about ways to keep children safe online.

The event, featuring a presentation by Google, iKeep Safe and guest speaker, Mark Strama from the Texas House of Representatives, will engage parents in a dialogue about cyberbullying, protecting personal information, maintaining positive reputations and relationships online. Food and beverages will be served.

Some of the topics to be discussed are cyberbullying, protecting personal information and maintaining positive reputations and relationships online.

McCallum Welcomes MAC, Central Texas' First High School Broadcast Radio Station

Austin, TX—McCallum High School will launch its new radio station, MAC Radio (1670 AM), which is the first high school broadcast radio station in Central Texas. The grand opening will include live performances by students in McCallum's songwriting class and a special appearance by Strongman Dennis Rogers, who has appeared on Regis, Oprah, the Late Show with David Letterman and the Tom Green Show. He's also been featured on Discovery Channel specials such as The Science of Super Human Strength and Stan Lee's show, Superhumans.

Seeking Science Enthusiasts for Intel Austin Mini-Educator Academy

Attention Science Enthusiasts! 

AISD has received a grant from the Intel Corporation to conduct an Intel Austin Mini-Educator Academy this summer.

The academy will provide fifteen AISD teachers with the knowledge, skills and resources to assist and motivate students in the development of science fair projects. It will also provide teachers with models and best practices for providing students with research-based courses and experiences.
