Austin, TX—Austin Independent School District Superintendent Meria Carstarphen focused on increased student academic performance and projected financial stability during the third annual State of the District address. More than 200 people attended the address at the new McCallum Arts Center, which was broadcast live on AISD Channel 22 and the district's website.
The curtain rose on the 2011 State of the District address at McCallum Arts Center to reveal Superintendent Carstarphen standing in the rain, produced through the wizardry of McCallum theater team members.
Holding an umbrella and wearing a rain coat and boots, she welcomed more than 200 guests to the tune, “Singing in the Rain” performed by the McCallum First Edition Choir.
The Office of Innovation and Development has been working in partnership with Whole Foods Market to help Graham Elementary School expand their school garden -- and it's growing. At Whole Foods Market each company team is encouraged to hold an annual team-building event. More often than not, teams choose to include a community service component.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, Sunset Valley Elementary School celebrated its 40th anniversary. Several former principals attended the ceremony, and Sunset Valley students presented, in English and Spanish, a visual presentation about the history of the school. Pamela Hall, the district’s Executive Director of Human Resources, has been named the 2011 Personnel Administrator of the Year by the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators. TASPA, a professional organization that primarily comprises Texas public school human resources administrators, selects awardees based on their dedication and leadership in the field. A well respected and admired member of the AISD team, Hall certainly fits the criteria.
