Interim Superintendent Matias Segura will step into the new year as the lone finalist for Austin ISD’s long-term superintendent position. 

What they’re saying: “To be given an opportunity to lead this organization for the next several years is incredible,” said Matias Segura. “I love this organization. I love our students. I love our staff and I’m excited to take this work on.”

How it works: Segura will have to wait at least 21 days before entering into an employment contract with the district per Texas law. 

The details: The board unanimously approved Segura as Interim Superintendent in December 2022. 

  • Since then he’s successfully led efforts increasing staff hiring and retention and improving systems and support for students who receive special education services.

Background: Segura has worked for the district since 2018, serving as chief of operations and leading the implementation of the $1.05 billion 2017 bond.

  • Segura's ties to Austin ISD run deep—He is a graduate of Austin ISD, the son of a long-time Austin ISD teacher and the father of two Austin ISD students.

What’s next: The district will vote on a contract at the regularly scheduled voting meeting on January 25.

El Austin ISD se encuentra a un paso de tener un superintendente permanente

 

El superintendente interino Matías Segura comenzará el año nuevo como el único finalista para el puesto de superintendente permanente del Austin ISD.  

Lo que están diciendo: "Es increíble contar con la oportunidad de liderar esta organización por los próximos años", dijo Matías Segura. "Me encanta esta organización. Me encantan nuestros estudiantes. Me encanta nuestro personal y estoy emocionado de aceptar este trabajo".

Los detalles: La mesa directiva aprobó de forma unánime a Segura como superintendente interino en diciembre del 2022.  

  • Desde entonces, ha liderado exitosamente esfuerzos para aumentar la contratación y retención de personal y para mejorar los sistemas y el apoyo para los estudiantes que reciben servicios de educación especial.    

Antecedentes: El Sr. Segura ha trabajado para el distrito desde el 2018. Fungió como jefe de Operaciones y lidereó la implementación del bono de $1,050 millones del 2017. 

  • Los vínculos de Segura con el Austin ISD están muy arraigados: es graduado del Austin ISD, su mamá fue maestra del Austin ISD por muchos años. Además, las hijas de Segura son estudiantes del Austin ISD. 

¿Cuál es el siguiente paso? El distrito votará sobre el contrato en la junta de votación regular la cual está programada para el 25 de enero. 

Marquen sus calendarios: La mesa directiva ofrecerá dos oportunidades a la gente de hacerle preguntas al Sr. Segura y para que él comparta su visión del distrito.
