Dear Austin ISD Community, Last night, our Austin ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve 24 state-mandated turnaround plans, marking a key milestone in our work to improve academic outcomes for students across the district and respond to the realities facing public education across our state today.
Mendez will return to Austin ISD management, community visioning to begin this spring
Austin ISD will retake ownership of Mendez Middle School starting in the 2026-27 school after the campus earned a B rating through Third Future Schools. This milestone marks an important step as the district co-creates the future vision of Mendez with the community.

Special Education Evaluation Progress (en español)
Austin ISD’s Special Education Department accomplished a major milestone as it was shared with the board that the district has zero overdue evaluations! That’s a significant turnaround from 1,588 late evaluations in 2022–23. By the numbers: The district achieved 100% compliance with state performance indicators despite rising demand, with referrals peaking at 7,196 in 2024.…
