Celebrate AISD Teachers During Teacher Appreciation Week
Every year, AISD joins school districts across the nation in celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10, and AISD invites families, staff and community members to help us celebrate the crucial role and essential contributions of AISD's more than 6,000 teachers and substitute teachers across the district.

Non-Renewal of Contracts—Reduction in Force The Board of Trustees of the Austin Independent School District tonight took the final steps necessary to eliminate 1,153 positions, so as to address a budget shortfall estimated at $94.4 million for the 2011-2012 School Year. Superintendent Carstarphen called the action “perhaps the most difficult matter to come before you as a Trustee.”
$1 Million Donation Expands Innovative SEL Program
Austin, TX—Recently, three pairs of Austin donors announced their commitment to donate $1 million to the Austin Independent School District to expand its Social and Emotional Learning programming. The matching grant is designed to call upon community members to help support implementation of SEL in all schools in the district during the next three years.
AISD Board Delays Implementation of STAAR End-of-Course Exam “15 Percent” Grading Requirement
Under district policies approved by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees at its Feb. 27 meeting, a student’s score on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) end-of-course exams taken during spring 2012 will have no effect on that student’s grades or class rank.
