Mentoring Program Started To Honor Legacy of UT Football Star Cedric Benson
Jackqueline Benson, mother of the late University of Texas and NFL football player Cedric Benson, told her son to 'strive to achieve.' Now that saying will echo for years to come at Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy as the school announced a new mentoring program Friday dedicated to the star football player.

Cap Metro Extends the Summer Fun: All students ride free through Dec. 10
Now through Dec. 10 all students with a valid school ID can ride any Cap Metro transit free-of-charge—an extension of their summer offer of free public transport to all kids. To take advantage of this, students must show their school-issued ID to the bus operator or fare inspector. AISD Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
The Austin Independent School District will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Monday, Jan. 15.All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business and school hours Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Austin Students Can Shine Onstage This Summer
Students of all experience levels are welcomed to shine onstage this summer during the free Summer Theater Series program from the Austin ISD Fine Arts Department. Current fifth through 12th-grade students are invited to try out as actors, dancers, technicians and musicians. Audition help is available, and no experience is required.
