Children need nutritious meals to learn, grow, and thrive—even when school is out. Austin ISD is providing free breakfast and lunch for students at many schools throughout the summer through a federally funded Texas Department of Agriculture meal program.
New food pantry at Galindo Elementary School provides access to healthy food for all Austin ISD families (En español)
On Tuesday, Austin ISD celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new food pantry at Galindo Elementary, thanks to a partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB). Why it matters: One in five kids in Travis County don’t know where their next meal is coming from, according to CTFB.
AISD to Provide Free Meals through December
The Texas Department of Agriculture recently announced an extension of current school meal programs through Dec. 31. This extension allows Austin ISD to continue to provide free meals for any child under 19, or those over the age of 19 who are utilizing special education resources or currently enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma from curbside meal sites.
AISD Meal Sites Closed for Labor Day
All Austin ISD meal sites will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7. To provide food for the three day weekend, children and their caregivers will receive two meal packs on Thursday, Sept. 3, and three meal packs on Friday, Sept. 4.
