Austin’s bag ban has only been in effect for two months, but already students at Hill Elementary School have capitalized on a way to help the city’s cause—and the environment—while also raising money for an annual fundraiser at the school. Each year, Hill ES fifth graders must come together, brainstorm ideas and raise money in order to throw an end-of-year party at the campus.

New COVID-19 testing method allows for safer classrooms
Austin ISD could test more students for COVID-19 via a new method where students from the same class put their swabs into one testing vial. Why it matters: This new approach — called pooled testing — could allow Austin ISD to target campuses where students are testing positive more frequently and help slow the spread.
Bowie Yearbook Gains National Recognition
The new year will be one for the books for Bowie High School. The “Lone Star Yearbook” was named as a finalist for two national awards: a Pacemaker from the National Scholastic Press Association and a Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
