May 6 is National Bike to School Day
National Bike to School Day began in 2012, working with the League of American Cyclists to coordinate events for National Bike Month. Students throughout the U.S. may ride their bikes to school May 6. Drivers can help keep everyone safe by watching out for pedestrians or students riding their bicycles, and students should try to always be aware of their surroundings.

Austin Independent School District (AISD) Superintendent Meria Carstarphen kicked-off the 2011-2012 school year this morning by joining the bike club of Zavala Elementary School, the "Freewheelin' Mustangs," for a ride around their east side neighborhood. AISD will partner with the Central Texas Food Bank to provide access to healthy food while campuses are closed for spring break. AISD curbside meal sites will serve free seven-day meal packs prior to the break on Thursday, March 11.
