AISD's First Literacy Summit, Featuring Dr. Richard Allington
The Austin ISD Literacy Work Group was established to develop a plan for literacy in the district. A Board-Approved AISD Strategic Priority for school year 2014–15 includes the implementation of the district literacy plan. The Literacy Work Group consists of 25 representatives from schools, district leadership and community members.

Many parents, and even many educators, are dismayed by the frequency and emphasis on standardized tests in public schools. These testing programs are required by state and federal law. Other than very specific exceptions related to English language learners, Texas school districts must administer standardized exams to all students.

AISD Students Outpace Peers Locally, Nationally and Internationally in AP Exam Passing Rates
According to the College Board, of the AISD students who took an Advanced Placement exam in 2016–17, 60.5 percent received a qualifying score of 3 or better, a 1.5 percent increase year-over-year. This success rate exceeds the performance of students in Texas at 46.4 percent, students in the U.S. at 57.5 percent and students internationally at 58 percent.
