Every year, Austin Partners in Education trains more than 1,500 community volunteers to be classroom coaches and mentors throughout Austin ISD.Karen Yokum, an electrical engineer at IBM, has volunteered with APIE as an eighth-grade math classroom coach for three years, helping students understand real-world applications of their classroom studies.

Zavala Student Wins National Hispanic Heritage Safety Poster Contest
Last week Zavala Elementary held an assembly in honor of fifth grade student, Sofía Valadez who won the national Hispanic Heritage Safety Poster Contest, put on by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The contest is held annually during Hispanic Heritage Month to teach elementary school children in Hispanic communities about safety.

KLRU Invites AISD to Help Guide New American Graduate Project
AUSTIN, Texas–KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, has been awarded a $200,000 American Graduate community service grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
