Paredes Middle School will immediately close after the Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to amend the school’s Turnaround Plan to ensure all students move directly into learning environments with stronger academic momentum. As part of this plan, Paredes will close and students will transition to Bailey and Mendez Middle Schools starting in the 2026–27 school year. The decision comes after district leaders evaluated Paredes student achievement last year and the campus’ readiness to welcome students this year, which showed the district needed to urgently modify student supports to improve outcomes. The details Students living East of Bluff Springs Road and North of Slaughter Lane will be reassigned to Mendez Middle School. All other students within the Paredes Middle School boundary will transition to Bailey Middle School. As part of this transition, Bailey Middle School will adopt Paredes’ Turnaround Plan approved by the Texas Education Agency in Jan. 2026. This transition includes the transfer of additional resources and support systems designed to enhance student academic outcomes. Austin ISD submitted the amended Turnaround Plan to the Texas Education Agency for formal acceptance. Next steps Austin ISD staff will collect family intentions and transition requests by survey, phone, and in person during the week of Aug. 3, to ensure students are enrolled and ready for the first day of school. Families who need in-person support for enrollment can visit Paredes from 2-6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3 and 8:15 a.m.-12 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6.
