Austin ISD unveils first set of electric school buses

AUSTIN, Texas ( Jan. 23, 2024) — Congressman Lloyd Doggett will join Austin ISD leaders and Austin Mayor Kirk Watson at a press conference on Thursday Jan. 25  to officially unveil the district’s newest fleet of electric school buses. 

There will also be a formal recognition of the $6.25 million grant award to Austin ISD from the Environmental Protection Agency to purchase an additional 25 electric buses. These efforts tie into the district’s commitment to transition to an all-electric fleet of buses by 2035. 

The district’s transportation team will walk media through a tour of the buses, including a ride along on the buses.

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution in Sept. 2022, recognizing that the school district can safeguard children from the harmful effects of diesel school bus pollution by converting to electric buses.
