AISD to Conduct Block Walk to Reconnect with Austin Families

Austin ISD volunteers will conduct a block walk to reconnect with Austin families as part of Operation Reconnect. Volunteers will learn about families’ educational needs and priorities––as well as welcome more learners to AISD’s family of schools.

Who: Austin ISD teachers, staff, and community volunteers.

What: A door-to-door campaign to reconnect with families and share information about district program offerings.

When: Saturday, June 5  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Volunteers will meet at the Mendez Middle School field, 5106 Village Square Drive, Austin, TX 78744, at 9 a.m. for a brief orientation. Volunteers will then depart for the walk to designated neighborhoods.

The focus of the event is schools in the Dove Springs neighborhood. 
Focus campuses include:
Elementary: Houston, Langford, Perez, Palm, Rodriguez, Uphaus, Widén
Middle: Mendez

During the operation, volunteers will share information about the district’s world-class programs, including:

  • Free prekindergarten.
  • Fine arts.
  • Robust enrichment programs, which are available before and after school.
  • Free career preparation programs such as Pathways in Technology.
  • Early College High Schools.
  • Engaged 21st-century learning experience.

Volunteers will be using personal protective equipment to safely participate.
