The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Tina Salazar to serve as principal of Akins High at its Oct. 29 meeting.

Salazar most recently served as the interim principal of Akins where she has also been an English department chair, instructional lead teacher and coach. She has six years of administrative experience and served in the classroom for a total of 21 years.

Salazar has a bachelor's degree in English writing from St. Edward's University and a master's degree in education from Concordia University.
