AISD showcases the facility's sustainable features

Austin ISD celebrates its 31st green building, and is being recognized by two leading organizations for its continued sustainability efforts. The AISD Performing Arts Center is receiving both a U.S. Green Building Council LEED gold certification and an Austin Energy Green Building rating.
 
What: A tour of the facility's sustainable features, followed by light refreshments.

Where: AISD Performing Arts Center Lobby, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.
Background: The PAC, located in the Mueller development, hosts district band, orchestra, theater, dance and visual arts performances. The center was designed by Pfluger Architects, in association with Miro Rivera Architects. The PAC includes a 1,200-seat auditorium, a 250-seat black box theater, a 150-seat multipurpose room and a dance rehearsal space. Austin voters approved the construction of the AISD Performing Arts Center as part of the $343.7 million 2008 Bond Program.
 
U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for their project.
 
Since 1991, Austin Energy Green Building has been cultivating innovation in building and transportation for the enrichment of the community's environmental, economic and human well-being. This mission is achieved through green building ratings, consulting services, code advancement, education and professional development. AEGB ratings raise the standards for energy efficiency, water quality and conservation, community compactness and connectedness, indoor environmental quality, material resources and site development. The AEGB ratings are specific to Austin and reward sustainable building practices on a scale of one to five stars.
