Austin ISD Graduation Rate Exceeds 90 Percent

Dropout rates also improved in 2016

Austin ISD’s Class of 2016 federal graduation rate for all students rose to 90.7 percent, with gains made in every student group.

“I am so #AISDProud of the gains our students and staff have made in graduation and dropout rates,” said Superintendent Paul Cruz. “This far exceeds the national rate. This is a great step in preparing all students for college, career and life, and shows our dedication to reinventing the urban school experience.”

The greatest increase was in the African-American student group, which rose to 88.4 percent, up 3.8 percentage points over the prior year. The special education graduation rate also increased significantly, rising to 72.8 percent, a 2.4 percentage point gain over the prior year.

For the 2015–16 school year, the federal dropout rate for all students also improved, decreasing to 1.1 percent. The greatest improvement was in the dropout rate of English Language Learner students, which decreased nearly a percentage point to 1.9 percent. The dropout rate of special education students decreased by a half of a percentage point to 1.6 percent, while the dropout rate of African-American students increased by six-tenths of a percentage point to 2 percent.
