Children’s Author Yuyi Morales to Visit Mathews Elementary School

AUSTIN, TEXAS—Austin ISD welcomes Yuyi Morales children’s book author and illustrator to Mathews Elementary School for a reading of her new book, “Niño Wrestles the World.”

What: Reading with Mexican-American author Yuyi Morales, featuring remarks by AISD Chief Academic Officer Pauline Dow

When: 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25

Where: Mathews Elementary School, 906 W. Lynn St.

Background: Born and raised in Mexico, Yuyi Morales has been a radio producer and children's book creator since coming to the United States. Her books have won numerous awards and honors, which include “Little Night” and its Spanish edition, “Nochecita,” a 2008 ALA Notable Children's Book, and “Just in Case: A Trickster Tale and Spanish Alphabet Book,” both published by Roaring Brook Press. Upon winning the 2008 Pura Belpre Medal for “Los Gatos Black on Halloween,” Yuyi Morales became the first author/illustrator to be three times recognized by the Pura Belpre Committee. Morales lives in Northern California.
