AISD Appoints Five Principals For 2012-13 School Year

Austin, TX—Tonight, Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of principals for Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus, Kealing Middle School, Parades Middle School, Metz Elementary School and Lucy Read Pre-kindergarten Demonstration Center.

Bryan Miller, Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus

Miller, who has been a teacher for more than a decade, has served as the interim principal of Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus since January. Prior to joining Eastside Memorial, he served as an academy director at Lanier High School from 2008 to 2012 and as assistant principal at Lanier from 2005 to 2008. During his time at Lanier, Miller led the school's redesign plan to restructure the campus into smaller learning communities. He earned his master of education and bachelor of science degrees from Texas State University. His first day as principal will be April 24.

Robin Lowe, Kealing Middle School

Lowe brings 23 years of education experience to Kealing Middle School. Her most recent role was principal at Pershing Middle School in Houston. She also has served as a principal at Pearland Junior High in Pearland and Friendswood Junior High School in Friendswood. Prior to serving as a principal, Lowe was a middle school science and mathematics teacher. Under her leadership at Pershing, the school improved to earn a recognized rating by the Texas Education Agency. Her first day as principal will be July 1.

Karla Wright, Paredes Middle School

Wright, who has more than 20 years of education experience, is the principal of Piner Middle School in Sherman. She also has served as principal of Bowie and Crockett junior high schools in Odessa and as a mathematics teacher. During her time at Piner, the school earned gold performance acknowledgements for academic improvement in reading, writing and mathematics from 2007 through 2011. Wright's first day as principal will be July 1.

Martha Castillo, Metz Elementary

Castillo currently serves as assistant principal at Odom and Sunset Valley Elementary Schools. Prior to becoming a principal, Castillo was a bilingual teacher for eleven years in Austin ISD and Northeast Independent School District. She is also a certified Special Education teacher. Castillo's first day as principal will be July 1.

Ami Cortes-Castillo, Lucy Read Prekindergarten Demonstration Center

Cortes-Castillo serves as assistant principal for Brentwood and Reilly elementary schools. She spent four of her six years as a teacher at Walnut Creek Elementary. Cortes-Castillo's first day as principal will be July 1.
