Brian Mowry Named AAEYC Teacher Educator of the Year

Brian Mowry, an AISD prekindergarten specialist, was named the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children (AAEYC) Teacher Educator of the Year at a recent conference held in Austin.

Mowry has worked in the Austin Independent School District for 18 years. He taught bilingual prekindergarten for nine years, and bilingual kindergarten for two years. He has earned various awards, including Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years and served as a K-5th grade mathematics support specialist, writing curriculum and providing teacher in service training. He currently works as a district-level prekindergarten specialist, supporting more than 300 full-day prekindergarten teachers with curriculum and in service training.

Brian has presented at various national conferences, including NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics), has co-authored a national mathematics textbook program, and works part-time as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is pursuing a doctorate in early childhood education.
