2026 African American Heritage Celebration

Date
Friday, February 27, 2026 - 7:00 pm

The African American Heritage Celebration program started in 1983 under the leadership of former Austin ISD Associate Superintendent William Charles Akins. This is the 43nd Annual African American Heritage Celebration, and it is an opportunity for Austin ISD to celebrate the academic achievements of our students, the dedication and leadership of staff members, and the commitment of our community partners. We honor over two hundred students, Austin ISD staff members, and various community leaders.

Each year, the African American Heritage Committee selects a high school to showcase its student talent and to host the celebration. For 2026, the committee has chosen Eastside Early College High School as the host campus. The theme for this year’s event is “A Century of Celebration: 1926–2026 Faces of Austin ISD.”

The 43rd Annual African American Heritage Celebration will be held in person on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.).
