African American Heritage Celebration Program

Date
Friday, February 24, 2023 - 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

This program started in 1983 under the leadership of former AISD Associate Superintendent William Charles Akins.
This is the 40th Annual African American Heritage Celebration, it is an annual event.

It is an opportunity for AISD to celebrate the academic achievements of our students, the dedication and leadership of staff members and the commitment of our community partners. We honor over two hundred and fifty (200) students, approximately ten (8) AISD staff members and various community leaders.

Our prize structure awards textbook scholarships to our Top Senior Scholars once they have been accepted into college.
The scholars in grades 6-8 are awarded prizes based on how they place in the essay or arts contest.

Each year the African American Heritage Committee selects a high school to showcase the talent at the school and to host the program.
This year the committee has chosen Travis Early College High School and the theme is "Building the Future from the Lessons of the Past."

This year the event is in person on Friday, February 24, at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd, Austin, TX 78723.
