Fourth Annual Districtwide Summer Theatre Series—In the Heights

Austin ISD's Fine Arts Department is proud to announce the fourth annual districtwide Summer Theatre Series productions, with its most inclusive offerings yet.

This year, the series includes two musicals, as well as student-written and student-directed works, and featured special workshops with the touring company of Hamilton

Productions

  • In the Heights runs July 18–July 21 on the AISD Performing Arts Center main stage, at 7 p.m. July 18–20 and 3 p.m. July 21.
  • Aladdin dual language edition runs July 25–July 28 in the Austin ISD PAC Black Box Theatre, at 7 p.m. July 25–27 and 3 p.m. July 28.
  • Take 5: Shifting Perspectives on (Dis)Ability is at 4 p.m. July 27 and 6 p.m. July 28.

Take 5 is the newest expansion of the summer series and The VSA Playwright Discovery Program, which invites middle and high school students with disabilities to explore their experiences through the art of writing for performance in the form of plays, screenplays or musical theatre.

The show is being directed by recent Austin ISD graduate Noah Messer. ASL interpretation and audio description services will be included for some of the performances, and a talkback with the cast, production team and special guests will follow on the July 28 performance of Take 5. 

Tickets for all performances are $15 for adults and $10 for students and Austin ISD staff
