Salute is Austin ISD’s annual celebration to recognize some of the district’s outstanding team members for their continued dedication to student excellence and achievement in our schools.

The event will be held in person on Wednesday, May 08, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Austin, TX 78723

Austin ISD seeks input in redesign of Metz outdoor space (En español)

We’re reimagining the Metz Elementary School outdoor space after earning a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support outdoor learning.

  • The community is invited to complete a confidential six-question survey to provide feedback on how the project moves forward.

Why it matters: The new Metz Outdoor Wonder and Learning Center aims to cultivate outdoor learning experiences to benefit the whole Austin ISD community. 

‘Day of Service’ at LBJ Early College High School (En español)

This year dozens of volunteers came together on ‘The Day of Service’ to transform the campus of LBJ Early College High School into a vibrant and attractive space for students. They painted, built, and beautified the landscaping, creating a greater sense of pride for the school.

Why it matters: It was a collaboration between Keep Austin Beautiful, LBJ and Texas Roadhouse. This collaboration demonstrates the positive impact of organizations working together for the greater good.

Austin ISD celebrates student, community achievement at Latino Academic Achievement Awards (En español)

The Austin ISD community gathered last week at the 16th annual Latino Academic Achievement Awards to spotlight the remarkable achievements of some of the district’s most-accomplished students.
The event also honors community members who have supported student achievement. 

Why it matters: The celebration positively reinforces the hard work, dedication and persistence it takes to succeed academically, and create pathways for leadership in the Latino community. 

TELPAS

Purpose of TELPAS

  • TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) is designed to assess the progress that emergent bilingual students make in learning the English language. 
  • It helps schools and teachers track each student’s English language development over time to help ensure students are making progress in English language skills.

What TELPAS Measures

  • TELPAS assesses four key areas, or language domains, that are essential for English proficiency:
    • Listening

UpClose participants take immersive tour of Austin ISD (En español)

This year’s cohort of the Austin ISD leadership program, UpClose, jumped on an electric bus and set off to see how the district honors the past while putting some of the district’s most medically vulnerable students in modern spaces.

Why it matters: The tour gave first-hand looks at the variety of ways Austin ISD invests in its diverse student population with facilities that support state of the art instruction, cultural identities and safety.
