The Texas Education Agency requires all districts to adopt a school calendar that provides 75,600 operational minutes.

Districts also are required to make up two days of bad weather/safety closures. Any closures beyond two school days do not have to be made up.

Austin ISD builds two bad weather makeup days into the school year calendar. Campuses also have the option to extend their school day and accumulate enough extra minutes over the course of the school year to cover two bad weather day closures. 

To ensure the safety of all our students, families and staff, all Austin ISD classes, activities and operations—including all bus routes—are delayed two hours tomorrow, Jan. 17. Buses will pick up students and classes will begin two hours after their normal schedule.
