Rodrigo Rodriguez-Tovar was born in Mexico, but he found his calling in America.

The fourth grade bilingual teacher at Cook Elementary School has been named Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Bilingual Education.

"I started teaching because I want to help as many people as possible," Rodriguez-Tovar said. "The challenge is to continue to grow, and I'm thankful that Austin ISD gave me a place to do that."

District Embraces Opportunities, Challenges in #AISDFuture

Austin ISD's mission—to prepare students for college, career and life by reinventing the urban school experience—is one the district takes seriously.

This mission requires thoughtful discussions about aging facilities and the best way to anticipate the needs of students, families, teachers and the community in the coming decades.

The emerging Facility Master Plan is the blueprint by which the district will modernize its facilities to provide state-of-the-art learning and community spaces.

District Seeks Input as Part of Search for Fine Arts Director

Austin ISD is conducting a nationwide search for a new fine arts director and invites families, students and staff to complete an online survey to let us know what you'd like to see in a new director.

The community is also invited to join us 6–7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Austin High School choir room to share your feedback.

All input from the online survey and the community/staff meetings will be used to help district staff as we make this important decision.
