MEDIA ADVISORY: EAST Austin Studio Tour Features Blackshear Elementary School for Fourth Time

What: Join Blackshear Elementary School for the Little EAST—East Austin Studio Tour. 

The event includes: craft booths, face painting, performances of selections by Shakespeare, drama club improv, story time, Blackshear gift shop, student artwork, a fairy home tour and a special virtual reality booth presented by Google Fiber.

This event is free and open to the public.

MEDIA ADVISORY College-bound: AISD Hosts Encore Family Conference to Promote College Readiness

Austin ISD is hosting the group Engaging our Community for College Readiness for a special presentation to teach the community how to influence success in all children.

The conference, which is expected to have about 400-500 attendees, encourages families and their students to plan for a higher education after high school.

To honor the powerful contributions that parents and families make to support the success of all students, the Department of Communications & Community Engagement and ACPTA invite all AISD PTA’s to our National Parent Involvement Celebration and general meeting.

The meeting runs from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the AISD Performing Arts Center multipurpose room. Light refreshments and interpretation will be provided. Come and hear about our focus on supporting the learning process, both at school and at home, and how it is critical to increasing overall student achievement in our schools.

Webb Middle School Hosts Fourth Annual College Readiness Conference

Webb Early College Prep Academy hosts its fourth annual parent/student conference, ENCORE—Engaging our Community in College Readiness.

This year's event is 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Webb Middle School, 601 E. St. Johns Ave.

Families and students will participate in classes to help prepare them for career and college life.

AISD Trustee Gina Hinojosa will present the keynote speech and will hold a meet-and-greet with College For Every Student/AVID members.

The event includes a holiday dinner for participants, with each family receiving a free bag of food just in time for Thanksgiving!

MEDIA ADVISORY A Close Up of AISD Schools: Tour Educates Local Realtors on AISD Schools

A tour by Austin ISD will give Realtors a chance to become expert on AISD schools for clients looking for homes in the north Austin area.

As part of its marketing efforts, AISD has invited Realtors on a special tour of three Austin ISD schools to learn more about the schools’ offerings and points of pride.

What: The bus tour will visit Padrón Elementary School, Webb Middle School and Lanier High School.

When: 8 a.m.–1:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10

Vote on Options for the 2017–18 School Calendar / Votar en opciones para el calendario 2017–18

Austin ISD is currently working on the calendar for the 2017–18 school year. The Calendar Task Force has created three calendar options and is seeking input from families and staff.  

Please take a moment to review each the information below, which summarizes the differences in each calendar. One break that is the same for all three is Spring Break, which is scheduled for March 12–16. 

Game, Set, Match: Anderson, Bowie Make a Racket

The seniors on the Anderson varsity tennis team have come a long way since their freshman year.  

In the fall season of 2012, they won one match. They then rallied for five wins as sophomores and 11 as juniors. For their seniors' finale, the Trojans advanced to the regional tournament for the first time since 2007.

"With their leadership, this hardworking, dedicated team made the dream of the regional tournament a reality," said Anderson coach Erin Martin.

MEDIA ADVISORY: AISD Superintendent to provide an update on T.A. Brown Elementary School transition

An engineer conducting an assessment as part of the larger AISD Facility Master Plan determined there are structural concerns at T.A. Brown Elementary School, 505 W. Anderson Lane. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was closed and students will attend Reilly or Allan Elementary schools for the remainder of the school year. 

Who: Superintendent Paul Cruz will be available to respond to media questions.

See You at the Polls: Watch Election Results on AISD.TV

AISD.TV will be running election results on election night, Nov. 8 for school board elections. Results will be updated at the top of each hour, as they are made available from the Travis County Clerk’s office.

There are five AISD trustee seats up for election. The full board consists of nine members.

Voters will elect single-member seats from geographic regions two, three, five, seven, and a districtwide trustee seat eight. Trustees serve four-year terms.
