FABPAC Meeting

Baranoff Elementary will host Austin ISD's Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee (FABPAC) from 6:15-8:45 p.m. on Thursday May 12. 

The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of the school, located at 12009 Buckingham Gate Rd.

The Board of Trustees appoints citizens to the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee to evaluate capital improvement needs of the district and to provide recommendations to the board on long-range facilities planning; amendments to the Facility Master Plan; and the scope of work and timing of future bond programs.

AISD Launches Arabic, Korean and Vietnamese Language Programs in 2016-17

Austin ISD students will have more language options next year as the district launches Arabic, Korean and Vietnamese programs at a handful of schools.
 
"As we continue toward globalization, it is paramount that we prepare our students for college, career and life by equipping them with the skills needed to authentically interact with individuals from diverse cultures," said AISD World Languages Coordinator Tina Dong.

Conversation Corps to Discuss AISD Budget

AISD wants feedback from the community on ways it can provide the best service to its families with a fiscally sound budget.

Throughout the month of May, Conversation Corps’ partnering agencies bring an opportunity to participate in discussions across the city and to share thoughts on shaping the AISD budget plans for FY2018 to FY2020. 

The input gathered from the community will be presented to the AISD Trustees and considered when developing the proposed budget.

The Austin ISD Fine Arts Department is looking for student actors, singers, dancers, musicians,and crew to be a part of the very first districtwide summer musical!

All AISD students in fifth grade and older—including 2016 graduating seniors—are encouraged to audition for Disney's "The Little Mermaid."

AISD Doubles Capacity to Teach Prekindergarten for 3-Year-Old Students in 2016-17

Next year, Austin ISD will nearly double its capacity to teach prekindergarten for 3-year-olds (Pre-K3) thanks to contributions from local donors.

“When students have a strong start, they have a strong future,” Superintendent Paul Cruz said. “We want make sure all students are given a path to success. Starting early improves the chance that students graduate college-, career- and life-ready.”

AISD Students Outperform Their Peers in Austin Charter Schools

Each year, charter schools use this week (#CharterSchoolsWeek) as a time to raise awareness about their schools. But here at Austin ISD, we feel this is also an opportunity for us to raise awareness about our amazing schools, students and academic successes. 

Data shows that the Austin ISD outperforms the majority of charter schools in the Austin area. 

The comparisons come for the 2015 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness results, commonly referred to by its acronym STAAR, which are the series of state-mandated standardized tests used in Texas schools.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Latinos Recognized for Academic Achievement at AISD Award Ceremony

Austin ISD's Department of English Language Learners is hosting the Latino Academic Achievement Awards. The annual ceremony recognizes students for scholastic accomplishments and community leaders for advocacy, community service and volunteerism.

What: AISD will be recognizing more than 300 Latino students in grades 6-12 and three community leaders.

Travis HS students will emcee and will also provide the entertainment, including mariachis, a guitar ensemble and the Rebelettes dance group.

Give Us Your Two Cents: AISD Budget Community Conversation Meetings

Austin ISD invites the community to give feedback on the preliminary 2017 budget through community conversations. 

The district will hold one meeting during the day with Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley, as well as three meetings in the evening held simultaneously at different locations.

The community can join AISD at a central location to hear Conley give an overview of the budget, or watch the presentation live from two remote locations. The meeting will also be televised on Channel 22 and livestreamed on austinisd.org.
